Nowadays, we are using the term "Highway" instead of "Roadway" because we refer to construct the road over the embankment. Hence, the term Highway is used. 

The branch of civil engineering dealing with the planning, construction, detailing, maintenance with the regulations & control devices employed in highway traffic operation is known as Highway Engineering. 

:: What is the difference b/w PLAN & MAP ::

i). Both are the graphical representation of the features on a horizontal plane. 

ii). A plan is a large-scale representation whereas, Map is a small-scale representation.
