Nowadays, we are using the term Highway instead using the term Roadway because we refer to construct the roads over an embankment. Hence, the term highway is used.

The branch of civil engineering dealing with the planning, construction, detailing, maintenance with the regulations & control devices employed in highway traffic operation is known as Highway Engineering.
